AVID Information
2020-21: AVID
AVID is a four-year course throughout high school whose mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing ALL students for college readiness and success in a global society. By the end of the AVID four years at MVHS, students will be ready to meet their personal goals of applying to, being accepted at, and attending and being successful at a four-year college.
As a part of the AVID program, students receive:
- Extra academic support from their AVID teachers, AVID peers, AVID-specific academic counselor, and AVID tutors
- Encouragement, guidance, and support enrolling and succeeding in rigorous curriculum, especially AP and honors courses
- Academic enrichment experiences such as guest speakers, college visits, participation in the PEAK program, and field trips,
- Study skills, time management skills, and SAT/ACT test preparation
- Class and individual mentoring through the college and scholarship application process
