What Does a School Counselor Do?
The MVHS counseling department is here to help students navigate their time in high school. School counselors prepare students in the following domains:
  • academic advising
  • college and career planning
  • social and emotional well-being

Freshman Year
  • Introduction to high school, graduation requirements, college requirements, Naviance and Aeries introduction
  • Building a four year plan
  • Counseling appointment takes place during the third quarter
  • Freshman social
 
Sophomore Year
  • Parent night
  • Small group workshops with students to review graduation status
  • Sophomore social
  • Information about standardized test prep is shared
 
Junior Year
  • Parent night with presentation by counselors
  • Junior interview- counselors interview juniors individually, takes place during the 2nd quarter
  • College counseling appointment with the College and Career Center College Counselor
  • Junior social
  • Class presentations by the College and Career Center
  • Information about standardized test prep is shared
 
Senior Year
  • Parent night with presentation by counselors
  • Class presentations by the College and Career Center
  • Counseling appointment takes place during the 1st quarter
  • College counseling available via the College and Career Center
