Physical Education & Health Course Information Sheets

2024-25 Health Education

Health Education focuses on contemporary health issues affecting teens. This course is designed to support students in developing health literacy & positive health attitudes, comprehending essential health concepts, & practicing & promoting health enhancing behaviors. Students practice necessary skills, such as analyzing influences, accessing valid information, communication, decision making, goal setting & self management. Topics include personal & community health, mental, emotional & social health, nutrition & physical activity, alcohol, tobacco, & other drugs, injury prevention & safety, & growth, development, & sexual health.

2024-25 Physical Education (Gr. 9)

Physical Education is a standards based state required class.  Students will improve their health and skill related fitness.  Students in Course 1 (9th) while IN SEAT/PERSON will have the opportunity to develop and improve their skills by actively participating in individual/dual sports, fitness activities, rhythms/dance, and swimming. Students will be focusing on all Health Related Fitness areas (Cardio, Muscle Strength/Endurance, Flexibility and their body composition).  This Course will also support the Common Core State Standards for the Reading Standards for Literacy in Science and Technical Subjects 6-12.

2024-25 Positive Psychology

Positive psychology is the scientific study of the things that make life most worth living. The goal of this course is to help students develop knowledge, attitudes, & skills to live a happy, mindful & meaningful life.

2024-25 Team Sports (Gr. 10-12)

Physical Education is a standards based state required class.  Students will improve their health and skill related fitness.  Students in course 2 (10-12th grade) will have the opportunity to develop and improve their skills in team sports, gymnastics, and combatives.  Students will learn these through instruction, observation demonstration and verbal/written communications. This course will also support the Common Core State Standards for Reading Standards for Literacy in Science and Technical Subjects 6-12.  

2024-25 Total Fitness

Students will partake in all levels of individual fitness activities via digital learning/in person learning.  Examples are Yoga, Pilates, Fitness Training, Power Walking, Swimming, and Cardiovascular Health.  Students will also partake in a Self-Defense/Tumbling and Nutrition guidance will also be discussed. This is a year-long class, but can be taken as a semester if desired. At the end of the year, students will be able to create a fitness plan for themselves, understand places in the community where they can continue their fitness journey at an affordable cost, and share their passion for a healthier lifestyle with others with their new found knowledge. 

2024-25 Weight Training: Intermediate, Advanced

The Weight Training and Conditioning course is a standards based class that is worth 5 or 10 physical education credits (semester/year.)  Students will enter this class with basic knowledge of weight training/CrossFit from Physical Education 9.  They will understand proper safety, biomechanics and procedures to partake in more advanced weight lifting techniques using Olympic weights.  Plyometrics, power/speed training, Kettlebell lifts and nutrition will also be discussed.  This is a year long class, but can be taken as a semester if desired. Students must’ve passed Gr 9 PE with a “B” or better to qualify. Students in Course 3 (10-12th) will have the opportunity to develop and improve their fitness and conditioning levels through the means of flexibility, weight training, Plyometric, and cardiovascular based training.  Students will learn these through instruction, observation, demonstration and participation.  This course will also support the common Core State Standards for Reading Standards for Literacy in Science and Technical Subjects 6-12
