2026-27 Designated ELD 1 & 2
Designated ELD 1 & 2is an intensive English language development course for English learners on the emerging and novice end of English language proficiency. The course is aligned with the California English Language Development standards and Common Core Standards that prepare learners to build learner competence and confidence through consistent strategic partner work and collaborative instructional routines needed for success. Instruction will focus on academic vocabulary development, language, syntax, grammar, and writing structures through Close reading of developmentally appropriate and content-level-appropriate informational and literary texts. Students will explicitly develop language to facilitate discussion and construct authentic written products.

2026-27 Integrated ELD 1 & 2
ELD 1 & 2 Integrated English language development course for English learners on the emerging and novice end of English language proficiency. Designated ELD 3 is an intensive English language development course for English learners scoring level 2 or 3 on the ELPAC. The course is aligned with the California English Language Development standards that prepare learners to build learner competence and confidence through consistent strategic partner work and collaborative instructional routines needed for success. Instruction will focus on academic vocabulary development, language, syntax, grammar, and writing structures through close reading of developmentally appropriate and content-level-appropriate informational and literary texts. Students will explicitly develop language to facilitate discussion and construct authentic written products.

2026-27 Designated ELD 4
ELD 4 Designated is a course aimed at strengthening the academic language skills of a student scoring at an ELPAC level of 3. Students in ELD 4 can be placed in any English language class at MVHS, and therefore aims to reinforce a variety of skills taught in those classes through an individual curriculum. This course will alternate between two texts (mentioned above) in order to place focus on the four language skills detailed below.
