Please join me in honoring and celebrating MVHS’s amazing Food Service team as part of National School Lunch Hero Day: Bryan Barnhardt, Philip Candalaria, Dany Sin, Craig Nazareno, Alice Arellanes, Donna O’Hara, Virginia Gamez Cruz, and Kathy Arellanes.
While the Universal Meals Program is definitely a boon for our students, it takes an impressive amount of skill, creativity, efficiency, precision, and collaboration to feed approximately 1600 Spartans, twice daily.
Thank you to these heroes who ensure that our students are nourished and a key basic need is met so they are available to learn!

Last week, the MVHS Oracle student-run newspaper won 6th Place in the Best of Show competition at the recent JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention. Competing against top student media programs from across the country, our newspaper staff was recognized for excellence in editorial content, design, and student engagement. This prestigious national award highlights the dedication of our team and our commitment to providing high-quality journalism for our school community.
This team of students have worked hard all year long and I wanted to celebrate their accomplishments! I also want to thank Tammy Gilmore and Tom Chang for their support of our students. I also want to acknowledge Julie Williams and Joe Johnson for chaperoning the trip. Finally, I want to thank the parents for their support of our students! Congratulations!

Due to the emergency repair work PG&E is performing on Grant Rd. near the intersection at Bryant Ave., there have been increased traffic challenges.
The representative informed the District that this was unplanned, emergency repair work. Even though they initially hoped to have it completed by now, they have run into some issues. Because of that, the repair work is expected to occur through the weekend at a minimum. While they hope to have it completed in the next few days, it may extend through next Tuesday, May 5th.
When traffic is challenging, impatience can override our good judgment. We ask that you leave ample time to arrive at school and avoid danger. We thank you in advance for your attention to traffic safety.

This year, our First Robotics team is headed to Houston for their annual competition. I was so fortunate to join them last year!
Below are photos of the award trophies they received last year and of our Robotics students at one of their practice sessions!
I wish them the very best of luck! Go Spartans!

Yesterday, we had the Dance Spectrum performance, and we will have another one this evening. I am very excited to attend the show this evening. I am equally excited to attend the Folklórico Recital this Saturday.
I want to thank Lauren Kato, Tami Kittle , and Luis Cel for their hard work, and I hope that you consider attending these performances as they are simply amazing!

Last but not least, we begin this year's AP tests next year. There are required items and online preparation that must be completed. I hope that all students are ready to take the tests.
I want to thank our AP teachers for their diligent work in supporting our students. I want to acknowledge the hard work of Daniella Quiñones, Priscila Diaz, and Alma Nava. I want to thank our District IT team, in particular Rachel Abler, for their support. I also want to thank Marti McGuirk and the custodial team, who will need to work extra hard over the next several weeks with testing setup and graduation prep. I truly appreciate all of you!
Finally, I wish all our test takers the best of luck as they demonstrate their academic skills!
With gratitude,
Kip Glazer

Your mindful driving challenge for May is to count the bikes you pass (or that pass you).
Bikes are considered cars in the vehicle code, need to follow all the same traffic laws, and (in most cases) are entitled to ride in the middle of the car travel lane. They are, however, encouraged to move over to the right (to the bike lane) as a courtesy to allow faster cars to pass them. So do them the return courtesy of paying attention to where they are. Especially if you’re stuck in drop off traffic in front of the school, bikes can catch up to you. They’ll come up on your right side where they’re hard for you to see, right where your student is opening their door to hop out early instead of waiting for the drop off circle. Your challenge for this month is to count all the bikes you pass on the way to school. If you pass the same bike twice, count them twice.
And don’t let your student get out of the car in the middle of the road!
These Challenges are brought to you by MVHS and the Mountain View Safe Routes to School Program. Check out Mountain View’s Back to School page for tips and resources on getting to school safely.
