Hello Spartans:
Happy Friday!
|
Today is National Custodian Day, and we celebrate our hardworking custodians!
ASB made a banner that was displayed in our office, and we appreciate all they do to take care of our Spartans.
We ask that you continue to support them by picking up after yourselves and being respectful to our facilities!

Last week, our AVID students visited CISCO to learn more about a variety of available careers in the technology industry.
I thank Dr. Lynette Gilson for sharing a photo of our AVID students visiting CISCO. I am also thankful to the MVLA Education Foundation for its continued support for our students in many programs, including AVID and CTE.

Last Friday, we had the honor of hosting the 1974 CCS Champion Football team and coaches at a pregame ceremony! Here is their amazing story:
The 1974 Awalt Spartans faced adversity early in the season, losing their first three games. They went on to win five games in a row, setting up a winner-take-all showdown against undefeated Los Altos on the last day of the season. The Spartans clinched the league title and playoff berth by defeating Los Altos 35-15.
After playoff victories over Monta Vista and Pacific Grove, Awalt moved on to the CCS Championship Game against Leland. With 3 minutes remaining in the game, the Spartans broke the 14-14 tie with a touchdown pass on fourth down from 22 yards out. The defense held Leland on their last possession to win the CCS Championship 21-14.
At the ceremony, one of the players returned the winning trophy, which is now on display in our lobby.

I was so incredibly proud of our Tech Interns for hosting our 2nd Annual AI Parent Night. I am so proud to report that they designed the survey, created the agenda, invited the guests, devised the questions, and managed the entire event. I realize that made me sound like someone who didn't do much, which is exactly the point of project- and problem-based learning that I would love to see us do more of in the age of AI.
I am so incredibly proud of our students, and I am particularly thankful to Jens Tissera for coming to take amazing photos.
I want to thank Ms. Abby Dennison and Mr. Bob Fishtrom for representing our school and the District so well. And I thank Ms. Julia Wilkowski, one of our parents, for volunteering both her time and expertise as a parent and the Learning Science Lead from Google. Finally, I want to thank my dear friend, Isabelle Hau, the Executive Director of the Stanford Accelerator for Learning, for her generosity.

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the Fall Instrumental Concert. It was so exciting to see both Mountain View and Los Altos String and Chamber students perform.
I want to thank Mr. Ricky Alegria and Ms. Jo Nilsson for their hard work. I also want to thank numerous parents who volunteered to assist them.
Last night was also the first night with our new Theater Manager, Mr. Drew Carpenter. Everyone did a fantastic job, and it was such a lovely event!
|
We have a special bell schedule next week. As such, the library will be closed on Wednesday, immediately after school. Please plan accordingly.
|
I hope you have a wonderful weekend after you attend the football games!
